In the Key of Crazy

Carol Turner has been a band director for 35 years, 29 of those in Krum.  A native Kentuckian, she graduated from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas with a double major in Vocal and Instrumental Music.  She went on to receive her Master's degree at the University of North Texas in Music Education.  She has traveled and performed throughout the United States, Mexico, and Europe, including  Italy, Greece, France, Romania, Belgium, Germany, Holland, and Switzerland. Carol is an active member of WBDI (Texas Chapter President 2016-2018) and has presented at WBDI summer conventions, TBA, and TMEA.   She and her husband Russ have one son, Jackson, who is a Music Engineer.  Mrs. Turner loves to read, swim, travel and is an active member of her church family.

The Krum ISD Band program began in 1991 with a partnership between the University of North Texas and Krum ISD.  Carol Turner, UNT Teaching Fellow, started the program with 50 students in grades 7 and 8. which has since grown to over 300 students 6-12. With 6 State Honor Band Finalist titles (4 time State Runner-up), an award winning Jazz program, Steel Drum Band and the tremendous support of parents and community, the Krum Band is able to bringing the highest level of music education to its students. In 2015, the HS Band had 101 students qualify to compete at the State UIL Solo/Ensemble Contest. The HS Wind Ensemble was recognized as the National Wind Band Honors Runner-up in 2007 and 2011 and National Winner in 2008 and 2009.  In 2014 the KHS Band was selected to perform in the National Youth Concert.
